Brilliant. Bold. Boundless. You can do it!TM — Katrina Carter-Journet’s Journey Through the Stars and Beyond
Katrina Carter-Journet, B.S. in Physics, Southern University and A&M College | M.S. in Biophysics, Cornell University
“Brilliant. Bold. Boundless. You can do it!TM” This trademarked affirmation—created by Katrina Carter-Journet—is more than a phrase. It’s her personal mission: to empower others to rise with confidence, embrace their brilliance, and navigate the space where passion meets purpose.
Born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Katrina’s fascination with the stars began early. But it was in high school, inspired by Dr. Mae Jemison—the first Black woman in space—that her dream felt possible. Encouraged by representation, she set her sights on STEM with determination.
Katrina pursued her passion at Southern University and A&M College, earning a Bachelor of Science in Physics (concentration in Mathematics). Supported by a dedicated professor and her
experience in the Timbuktu Academy, she found community, confidence, and a calling that would shape her journey.
She went on to earn her Master of Science in Biophysics from Cornell University, focusing on the intersection of physics, biology, and engineering to solve real-world problems. At LIGO
Livingston Observatory, she contributed to gravitational-wave astrophysics with Caltech and MIT—an experience that confirmed her belief that space exploration is not just for some—it’s
for all.
Katrina supported NASA’s Space Shuttle Program and International Space Station at Johnson Space Center, performing Reliability and Maintainability (R&M) analyses, Probabilistic Risk
Assessments (PRA), and aiding the development of Extravehicular Mobility Units (EMU) for future lunar missions.
At Virgin Galactic, she worked as an Engineering Specialist while mentoring through Galactic Unite and BLAST (Black Leaders in Aerospace Scholarship and Training). Katrina also
supported reliability for the Lunar Permanence program at Blue Origin. Today, she serves as a Staff Reliability Engineer at VAST, where she is working on the next generation space
station. Her role reflects her continued dedication to building a sustainable future in space for all of humanity.
Her enduring passion for exploration is fueled by visionaries like Carl Sagan, whose Pale Blue Dot reminds us that Earth is a fragile oasis deserving of wonder and protection. She also finds
lasting inspiration in Nichelle Nichols, who broke barriers as Lt. Uhura on Star Trek, and continues to be motivated by leaders like Dr. Jeanette Epps, whose core leadership principle is
simply: “It’s justice.”
Katrina also works directly with youth leadership initiatives, creating and delivering empowering workshops that blend STEM, mental health awareness, and creative exploration. Her ability to
connect with diverse audiences through engaging talks and dynamic presentations makes her a sought-after speaker and workshop leader. She is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, and the mother of two delightful children—Lana Journet (17) and Robert Journet (14)—who inspire her daily to explore with heart, lead with vision, and serve with purpose.
As K.L. Carter, she is emerging as an author and affirmation creator, blending science, creativity, and empowerment. Her book, Mystical Girl: A Cosmic Journey to Self-Discovery, inspires readers of all ages to explore their inner universe and rise with purpose. She also created the Affirmation Hoodie, featuring her signature phrase—a wearable reminder of empowerment and limitless potential.
Katrina is currently working on her first children’s book, titled Let’s Chase the Moon, which celebrates curiosity, adventure, and dreaming big. Through storytelling, she continues to encourage young readers to reach for the stars and believe in their boundless potential.
Her message:
“You are space. You are light. You belong among the stars. Rise boldly and boundlessly. You can do it!TM” As she writes in Mystical Girl: A Cosmic Journey to Self-Discovery:
“You are a galaxy wrapped in human form, a constellation of dreams, a star chart of endless possibilities.” Her journey proves: The sky is not the limit—it’s only the beginning.
Feature: Mystical Girl: A Cosmic Journey to Self-Discovery Available now on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Blurb Bookstore, and Bookshop.org, Mystical Girl by K.L. Carter offers a cosmic, affirming guide for readers exploring identity, self-love, and purpose.
As a self-published indie author, she has also released Earthium Rise, Boy and the Mystical Girl Coloring Book—each an extension of her mission to inspire young minds through creativity, self-discovery, and cosmic wonder.
