 As always, Blue Skies,
Congratulations AviNation Rising Star:
Thomas Wilke
Senior at Greenville Technical Charter High School in Greenville, SC.

"I started my journey by receiving an introductory flight from a local flight school which is when I discovered my passion for aviation. I applied and was awarded a scholarship from Triple Tree Aerodrome, which assisted me to spend a year taking flying lessons for my PPL (private pilot license) checkride. My next step is to enroll in a Part 141 college that will enable me to earn a degree as well as a reduction in hours required to fly for the airlines which is my ultimate goal. Along the way, I also plan on becoming a CFI (certified flight instructor). "
"My advice to peers would be that weather can sometimes be unpredictable, so make sure you know the weather you are flying in and that it is within your minimums."

ASA (Aviation Supplies and Academics, Inc.) is a proud sponsor of the AviNation Rising Star program. In addition to this recognition each Rising Star will receive an ASA Pilot Backpack, the most current FAR/AIM, a Test Prep book of their choice, and ASA swag!!

Have you ever considered becoming a
Missionary Pilot and/or Mechanic?

What would be more satisfying than flying and maintaining aircraft to serve God and help his people in remote areas by delivering materials to build wells, medicine to save lives, or deploying Missionaries to spread the gospel to save souls?

Future Missionary Pilots and Mechanics Assoc logo

On average, it could take about seven - ten years in preparation to qualify as a Missionary Pilot and Mechanic. It all depends on your determination. There are training organizations that can get you there within 5 years so do your research. Pilots that have their Airframe & Powerplant license are preferred so think about getting your license along with an IA (Inspection Authorization) certification.

This "purpose" driven career may be for you. Visit FMPMA.ORG for resources and a map of training facilities and schools.

A New Way to Navigate, and It’s All About the Waves

By Terry Lloyd

Ever since the U.S. military got the Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) network going in the late 1980s, an alternative was immediately sought for the eventual threat against a critical system that would surely be developed by some adversary sometime in the future.

An emerging alternative, called Quantum Navigation, is under development. Quantum Navigation uses the natural magnetic properties of our Earth. Of course, using these same magnetic properties goes back to the most basic tool invented for navigation, the humble compass. Quantum Navigation is also a passive system and has the potential to be more accurate and more accessible than GPS and may prove to be very resilient to disruption.
